WRITING

I'm a writer and aspiring published author... Check out my blog for examples of my own work. I'm in the process of writing two different books... A children's novel about a magical world and the other a book which uses stories from my own journey to inspire women to lead the lives they most desire.

Here you will find a collection of links to other writers or pieces of writing that have touched me in some way or another. Not books, you will find them on the Reading page...

See if anything captures your imagination or attention...

Any suggestions to add to the page?!?

Remember

By Joy Harjo

Remember the sky that you were born under,
know each of the star’s stories.
Remember the moon, know who she is.
Remember the sun’s birth at dawn, that is the
strongest point of time. Remember sundown
and the giving away to night.
Remember your birth, how your mother struggled
to give you form and breath. You are evidence of
her life, and her mother’s, and hers.
Remember your father. He is your life, also.
Remember the earth whose skin you are:
red earth, black earth, yellow earth, white earth
brown earth, we are earth.
Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their
tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them,
listen to them. They are alive poems.
Remember the wind. Remember her voice. She knows the
origin of this universe.
Remember you are all people and all people
are you.
Remember you are this universe and this
universe is you.
Remember all is in motion, is growing, is you.
Remember language comes from this.
Remember the dance language is, that life is.
Remember.

Wild Geese

By Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Soul mates

By Elizabeth Gilbert

My experience with Elizabeth Gilbert started with Eat, Pray Love and then her book Big Magic helped me with my own creativity. (You can find a review of that in the Reading section). Here’s one of my favourite quotes from her:

“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.

A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.

A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master...”

Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life

By Wayne Dyer

I can’t have a section here without mentioning Wayne Dyer. His writing had a profound affect on my life at a very fragile time… So many books, so many quotes… Here is just one:

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

The Hill We Climb

By Amanda Gorman

This lady blew my socks off reciting at President Biden's Inauguration. She's one to watch for sure... Here's a short excerpt:

"When day comes we step out of the shade,

aflame and unafraid

The new dawn blooms as we free it

For there is always light,

if only we're brave enough to see it

If only we're brave enough to be it"

Our Deepest Fear

By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Discover your celtic tree zodiac sign and what it means

On Elephant Journal

Not everyone resonates with the characteristics set out in traditional Western Zodiac signs.

Fortunately, there is another way of discovering more about personalities and behaviours than simply looking at constellations.

The Celts hold an ancient belief that we all derive from trees, and our date of birth is interconnected with the qualities found in nature. They say that the season we were born in is pivotal to the formation of our individual tendencies and traits.

Her Time

By Lang Leav

“She has been feeling it for awhile - that sense of awaking. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her - she will nurture it and let it grow. She won't let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core - this is her time. She will not only climb mountains - she will move them too.”

Unpacking the Growth Mindset

On Train Ugly

At this point most of us know what a fixed mindset is and we also know what a growth mindset is. We’ve read the book, watched the Ted Talks, and seen about 5,933 variations of the Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset table...

It’s time to unpack this a bit, to pop the hood, to look closer at the nuts and bolts to figure out how it all works.
